Solaris and public transport operator Lokale Nahverkehrsgesellschaft mbH Kreis Groß-Gerau (LNVG) have signed an agreement for the delivery of 23 of Solaris’ Urbino series hydrogen buses.

The order consists of a mix of 15 standard-length Urbino 12 hydrogen buses as well a further 8 articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen vehicles.

The order encompasses 15 standard-length Urbino 12 hydrogen vehicles and 8 articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses

The first 12-metre buses are planned to be put into operation on the streets of Groß-Gerau in November 2024, with the remaining 8 articulated vehicles set for delivery by mid-2025.

Designed for sustainability, the Urbino 12 hydrogen and Urbino 18 hydrogen models are powered by 70 kW & 100 kW fuel cells respectively, with drivelines based on electric traction motors. Additionally, the Urbino series is fitted with Solaris’ proprietary High Power batteries, allowing for the storage of any unused energy during operation.

Features across the series also include heat pump-aided air conditioning, video surveillance and a modern passenger information system, as well as a slew of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including features to detect both pedestrians and cyclists in vehicle blind spots.

Day-to-day operations of the vehicles will be facilitated by Solaris’ eSConnect system, which allows for the monitoring of both vehicle performance and fleet management solutions.
