Solaris Bus & Coach has been awarded a contract for the supply of 40 articulated electric Urbino 18 buses for Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) GmbH.

The vehicles are set to arrive in Leipzig in two phases, with the first 15 vehicles due to be delivered during the second half of 2026 and the remaining 25 to be delivered in mid-2027.

Each bus will be capable of carrying up to 120 passengers, with two expected to be used for driver training purposes. The buses will be fitted with Solaris High Energy batteries with a capacity of more than 570 kWh, with charging set to be handled both at a local depot via plug-in and through a pantograph.

The vehicles will feature the eSConnect fleet management system, which includes remote activation of the preconditioning function whilst the bus is charging.

The contract also includes the installation of advanced safety and comfort systems, with each unit set to be equipped with an advanced driver assistance system as well as a speed assistant and passenger counting system.
