Vy Buss, Norway’s largest bus operator, has placed an order for three Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric buses. These vehicles will be deployed on routes in Slemmestad, a suburban area of Oslo, marking the debut of the 9-metre battery-electric bus in the Nordic markets.

The buses are scheduled for delivery in July 2025.

The Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric is a zero-emission midi-class bus designed for both urban and suburban routes. Its compact size allows it to navigate narrow city streets while offering a comfortable ride for passengers on longer journeys, thanks to a significant number of seats.

The model meets both Class I and Class II homologation standards, making it a versatile option for different types of routes.

For the Norwegian market, the buses will be equipped with a ‘Scandinavian package,’ which includes enhanced thermal insulation and practical features such as a snow chain drawer and special anti-elk lights to help prevent collisions with wildlife.

Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Norge AS said:

Norway has had success for many years with the diesel version of Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE, a perfect bus for countryside travel and smaller towns. Now, we aim for the new 9 LE electric to be just as successful, and are proud to introduce this bus to the Norwegian market together with Vy.

Since its launch in 2021, the Urbino 9 LE electric has gained traction in several European markets, including Poland, Germany, Spain, and Italy. The addition of Norway to this list brings the total number of Solaris buses operating in the country to over 700, further solidifying the company’s presence in the Nordic region.
