Tuvisa is set to add five new 100% Irizar electric buses to its northern Spanish fleet.

The company has chosen to purchase another set of Irizar ie trams, marking the fourth time the Vitoria-based operator has chosen Irizar e-mobility technology.

Irizar will supply five ie trams to Tuvisa

Of the five new units, three will be 18 metres long, and the rest will be 12 metres. The vehicles will contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gases throughout Vitoria-Gasteiz by providing a more efficient alternative to traditional diesel buses.

Iñigo Azcona, commercial director of Irizar e-mobility for Spain and Portugal, said:

For us, it's deeply satisfying that Tuvisa and the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz has chosen one of our solutions again. This new addition is the fourth time they've put their trust in Irizar e-mobility, which shows the soundness of a collaboration that started in 2019. Moreover, it's especially gratifying to see our ie trams on the road so close to our Aduna plant, where they're designed and manufactured.

Vitoria-Gasteiz is a European leader in sustainable mobility, and we are extremely proud to be going hand-in-hand with the city in their transition to cleaner and more efficient mobility. We hope to keep moving in the same direction together, and to keep contributing to the development of more sustainable cities for many years to come.

Irizar e-mobility first began working with Tuvisa in 2019 following the purchase of thirteen 12 and 18 metre ie trams, which were subsequently delivered in 2020 as part of the establishment of the operator’s EIB (Electric Intelligent Bus) system. Four years later, Tuvisa chose to incorporate another ten ie trams into its fleet, and in 2025 five more units were added to the fleet.

Each of the new buses is equipped with brand-new technology, and has been developed to meet all current European standards for safety, efficiency and sustainability. The fleet aims to provide an accessible travel experience for everybody, with reserved spaces for wheelchairs and prams, access ramps, Braille systems and specially-adapted areas for those with reduced mobility.

All vehicles are designed and manufactured at the Irizar e-mobility plant in Aduna, Gipuzkoa just a few kilometres from Vitoria-Gasteiz, keeping all production 100% local. The plant is committed to development and talent, employs around 400 people and is firmly committed to employment and the technological development of the area.
