Data Quality Solutions for Passenger Transport

Elydium was founded in 2019 with the vision to encourage modal shift by improving data quality and promoting data openness. We actively encourage collaboration and fully support the development of a thriving Open Data ecosystem encompassing operators, transport authorities, third-party suppliers and national government. High-quality data ensures passengers clearly understand when and where they can travel – improving confidence, satisfaction and patronage.

Elydium helps you get the best from your data by delivering:

  • Reliable, consistent and compliant outputs
  • Streamlined workflows
  • Clear visibility of service changes
  • Tools for operational, strategic and public-facing needs
  • A modular platform that grows with you

The Elydium Timetable Management Platform is fully scalable – from a single operator to an entire country; we maintain copies of the full TNDS and BODS data sets within the platform to assess performance and stability.

We have wide experience of collaborating with third parties and encourage the integration of our services with existing software to create hybrid solutions that are tailored to your individual needs.

Elydium always aims to provide competitively priced services and solutions. We use a continuous development and incremental deployment methodology which means that:

Ø All customers get the benefit of service improvements and enhancements at no extra cost.

Ø We will never charge you to upgrade or migrate to our “new version”.

We are happy for our service to be used in the provision of bureau services – for example, to assist small local bus operators in meeting their BODS obligations or to manage data on behalf of a neighbouring authority. Our pricing structure is designed to support these types of working arrangements in a way that is fair to all parties.

Everything we do as an organisation is predicated on a desire to improve the quality of public transport for passengers:

Better Data. Better Journeys.

Elydium – Better Data. Better Journeys.

Overview

The Elydium Timetable Management Platform is a cost-effective solution that facilitates the seamless and timely flow of high-quality timetable data. The platform plays the following key roles in the data workflow:

  • Validation and import (from internal or third-party systems).
  • Timetable version control (historic, current and future timetables).
  • Consistent data exports (in TransXChange, GTFS, Excel and PDF formats).

By ensuring data quality at every step, the platform builds trust and empowers you to interpret, analyse and utilise timetable data in meaningful ways. The core solution includes our best-in-class TransXChange import and export technology. BODS PTI-profile-compliant TransXChange files are quick and easy to produce, and a wide variety of other TransXChange “flavours” are supported by the platform. Optional modules include a data validation and upload portal, full timetable creation and editing, printed and online publicity, and NaPTAN editing.

The platform’s modular design allows you to tailor functionality to your precise operational and strategic needs. Pricing for most most modules is aligned with your organisation size; please refer to the pricing document for full details.

Modules

Timetable Manager (Core Module)

The foundation of the Elydium Timetable Management Platform:

  • Scalable timetable database repository, protected by a secure API
  • Multi-user, web-native interface for viewing service version validity, timetables and maps · All timetables are organised by Unlimited operators supported
  • Designed to manage multiple versions of each route as they develop over time
  • Imports: EBSR, BODS PTI Profile, TransXChange 2.1 & 2.4
  • Exports: BODS PTI Profile by default (customized TransXChange profiles can be configured if required)
  • Configurable automated ingestion of TransXChange from an external source such as BODS or TNDS and/or through a drag-and-drop mechanism within the user interface
  • Optional nightly automated TransXChange exports (e.g. to an S3 bucket)

Timetable Editor

Adds full editing capability to the platform:

  • Create or delete timetables
  • Create, delete, copy, retime or edit trips
  • Manage trip validity on weekdays, school days/holidays, bank holidays and other special days of operation
  • Modify geographic route tracks
  • Ideal for creating and managing data when a third-party scheduling or planning system is not available. Timetable Comparison Quickly identify changes between two timetables:
  • “Compare with previous version” function available on each service version in the timeline
  • Where the Upload Portal is used, any two TransXChange files can be up loaded and compared
  • Useful for supporting tender evaluation, franchise submissions and change management

Upload Portal

A powerful viewing, validation and submission gateway:

  • View and validate any TransXChange file
  • Customisable validation rules govern what is deemed “compliant”
  • Allow operators or third parties to submit compliant files (non-compliant files are rejected)
  • Submitted files are imported directly into the platform & immediately visible to users
  • Ideal for tender submissions, franchise compliance and regular timetable updates by incumbent operators

GTFS Export

General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) is commonly used by journey planners and app developers.

  • Exports can be triggered manually or automated, start & end dates can be configured
  • Customisation of existing fields and addition of custom fields is available

BODS Snapshot Viewer

Complete visibility of all timetables and routes in England:

  • View all “published” versions of all services for all operators, as they currently appear on the Bus Open Data Service (BODS)

UK Designed and Developed

Our solutions are designed and developed by UK-based software engineers and architects with more than twenty years’ experience of delivering bus planning and scheduling solutions to the UK market.

We understand the ways in which UK requirements differ from those in other parts of the world – for example:

Ø Trips are vertically oriented, giving an intuitive view of timetables.

Ø Trips are built using a timing point vs. intermediate point model.

Ø Bus stops are associated with the NaPTAN data set but can also be given “local” names.

Ø Service registrations can be “split” or “merged” to create passenger timetables.

No Unnecessary Complexity

We are firm believers in keeping things as simple as they can be, so our users do not need to concern themselves with data modelling concepts such as “journey patterns” or “timing links”. Timetable viewing/editing is carried out using an intuitive grid, with the requisite TransXChange entities managed automatically “behind the scenes”.

High Performance

The service is optimised for fast processing of timetables in TransXChange and GTFS formats, so imports, exports and validation only take a matter of seconds – even for the largest services. Even though our database scales to support national data sets, switching between versions and operators is instant and does not require any cumbersome manual processes.

Security

Our APIs and web applications are protected with OAuth 2.0 authorisation with Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE). We also use OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication and identity management to support federated identities.
