Swedish public transport authority, Svealandstrafiken, has awarded Volvo Buses a contract for the purchase of a total of 73 electric buses, in part replacing a previously cancelled order from Ebusco.

The order, which includes 13 articulated buses for city traffic and 60 for regional use, was initially agreed in Autumn 2024, with the operator then initiating a pre-qualification for the vehicles to secure availability in the event of non-delivery or delayed delivery of previous orders.

The order includes 13 articulated buses for city traffic and 60 for regional use
Fredrik Eliasson, Head of Public Transport, Region Örebro County, said:

We look forward to continuing the electrification of our city traffic with more quiet, emission-free vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment in Örebro.

The order includes options for additional sets of vehicles, and will see Volvo Buses fulfil an initial delivery of the 13 articulated city buses in early 2026.

These buses, which will join Ebusco’s previously delivered 23 electric buses as part of its partially fulfilled procurement with the operator, are set to be put into operation within Örebro.

The remaining 60 buses are set to begin operation in across both Örebro and Västmanland County, and will be fully equipped with luggage racks, reclining seats and curtains.

Jonas Berg, Head of Purchasing and Sustainability, Svealandstrafiken, said:

We are satisfied with how our contingency plans have turned out and that we can secure our deliveries of sustainable vehicles for the future.

To date, there are 17 Volvo Buses electric buses already in operation within Västerås.

Geert Schaap, Head of Technology and Innovation, Svealandstrafiken, said:

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Volvo Buses, who share our commitment to quality and innovation in public transport.

Initially an order to be fulfilled by Ebusco, the company has since shifted its business to begin prioritising all work on an Original Equipment Designer (OED) model, expediting the sale of previously cancelled buses to external companies.

Both Svealandstrafiken and Ebusco have mutually agreed to cancel two of three of their agreements, with the partial fulfilment of the procurement focusing on the delivery of electric buses for use on the operators City Line.
