Tata Motors has announced orders to supply approximately 500 electric buses across India, contributing to its wider contracts for more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicles.

The bus orders form part of a wider intake spanning freight, logistics and passenger mobility applications. The buses will be deployed on both intra-city and intercity routes, reflecting continued adoption of battery-electric vehicles by public transport operators.

Tata Motors currently offers a portfolio of battery-electric buses that includes the Starbus EV and Ultra EV ranges, designed for urban and regional passenger services.

The company already has more than 3,800 electric buses operating in cities across India. Collectively, these vehicles have covered more than 550 million kilometres, providing operational data that has been used to support vehicle development and performance improvements.

To support wider deployment of electric commercial vehicles, Tata Motors has expanded its charging network through partnerships with more than 14 charge point operators. It has also introduced EV financing options with banks and non-banking financial companies, alongside fleet management services and vehicle uptime support programmes.

These measures are intended to help operators integrate electric buses and other commercial vehicles into their fleets as adoption of zero-emission transport continues to increase.
