Public transit agencies across the US have celebrated the improvement of a slew of bus services and operations through the completion of a series of bus-priority infrastructure, faster routes, and a brand-new maintenance facility.
Improvement works have been carried out in Seattle, WA, Queens, NY, and Summit County, OH, upgrading experiences for passengers throughout each city.

In Seattle, King County Metro has completed major construction on Route 40 to add three miles of bus-priority lanes and traffic signals, with travel times allegedly already having improved in some areas.
Additional improvements include upgrades to 16 bus stops, 47 curb ramp upgrades, 6,000 feet of upgraded sidewalks, and 15 new or improved crosswalks.
Joe Rye, Capital Projects Manager at King County Metro, said:We’ve heard from the community that speed and reliability are very important to them. That’s why we support projects like this that help the bus get through traffic quicker.
In Queens, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) has reported faster buses after the borough completely redesigned its bus network. Locals are now travelling 1.7% faster on weekdays, 1.9% faster off-peak and 4.6% faster on rush routes – based on data comparing spring 2025 performance with spring 2026 after the redesign’s rollout.
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow, said:The Queens Bus Network Redesign is delivering on the promises of faster buses; greater reliability; and increased access to jobs, education, and more for the city’s most bus-reliant borough.
These improvements are the result of years of community input to ensure a bus network for the modern era.
Elsewhere, the new network has also given 124,000 additional Queens residents new access to services running every 10 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., expanding frequent-service connections across the borough.
Finally, in Summit County, OH, METRO Regional Transit Authority has celebrated the grand opening of a new maintenance and operations facility. The facility includes 28 maintenance bays and modern equipment and technology to support daily operations.
