Transport for Wales (TfW) has announced an extension of its 1 GBP bus fare for young people aged 5–21, with the scheme now set to continue into March 2027.
Figures have shown that more than 9 million journeys have been made under the scheme since it launched in September 2025.
Currently, 1 GBP single fare and 3 GBP day tickets are available to those aged between 5 and 21 with a mytravelpass, which allows discounted travel on bus services across Wales and select cross-border routes.
To date, over 38,000 mytravelpass cards have been issued to 16–21 year olds. After its initial introduction, the scheme was then extended to include 5–15 year olds that November, with this latest extension intended to coincide with the return to school and college across the country.
The Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper, said:This scheme is making a real difference to the day-to-day lives of young people across Wales, allowing them to make affordable journeys for work, education and leisure.
Reaching over 9 million journeys demonstrates the scale of its impact. Extending the scheme to March 2027 will allow more young people to benefit from affordable travel.
