Transport UK London Bus has taken over the operation of Route 493 in London, using a new fleet of Wrightbus electric buses.
Route 493 operates between Richmond and Tooting from Beddington Garage and marks the first deployment of the company’s Wrightbus GB Kite Electroliner vehicles. The entire route is expected to transition to electric operation in the coming weeks.

The single-deck Electroliner Kite can achieve a range of up to 375 miles using the latest CATL battery packs.
The new buses lower carbon output, reduce roadside air pollution, and operate more quietly than diesel equivalents. These changes are intended to contribute to improved environmental conditions along the route and surrounding areas.
The vehicles also include a number of updated passenger and safety features. Accessibility provisions include induction loop systems, designated wheelchair and pushchair spaces, and priority seating. Safety measures align with current TfL requirements, including redesigned front structures, improved driver sightlines, and onboard monitoring systems.
Passenger amenities have also been upgraded, with high-back seating, USB charging points, and audio-visual next-stop information installed across the fleet.
