UK Power Networks has announced a 3.5 million GBP investment into its network to allow the lowering of a road by the new HS2 station, Old Oak Common.
The lowering of the road will enable the use of double-decker buses underneath new bridges in the area.

Work to lower the road by two metres first began in October 2024, and has involved the replacement of a kilometre of high voltage cables that, if left unaltered, would have been impacted by HS2’s road lowering process.
UK Power Networks moved and, subsequently, replaced the cable circuit to allow the work to be completed, with the cables then having been energised in May 2025.
Pamela Ali, Programme Manager, Capital Programme, said:We’re proud to have worked collaboratively with HS2 over a number of years to support the delivery of this nationally significant infrastructure. The successful diversion of our high-voltage cable circuits at Old Oak Common Lane marks another key milestone in enabling the road-lowering works to progress safely and on schedule.
This achievement reflects the strength of our partnership and our continued commitment to powering progress through engineering excellence.
