The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) board of directors has officially approved a set of contracts that aim to improve both security and cleanliness across its system.
Representing a total investment of 24.6 million USD; the contracts will see the upgrade of DART’s surveillance system courtesy of Preferred Technologies, LLC, as well as the introduction of new bus stop and shelter cleaning services from Texas Elite Facility Services.

Upgrades are set to include the replacement of thousands of cameras, as well as the unification of DART’s hardware and software covering trains, buses, platforms, bus stops and facilities, and will include the implementation of advanced analytics capabilities, in turn improving response times.
The upgrade will be the first of its kind since 2010, with fieldwork planned to begin in the first half of 2026.
Randall Bryant, DART Board of Director Chair, said:This upgraded camera system is part of a multi-step process to ensuring our trains, buses and facilities are as secure as possible for our employees and riders.
We have a duty to maintain a secure system for North Texas, and it’s a primary priority of my tenure as Board Chair. These new cameras not only provide security, but also allow us to operate more efficiently.
In addition to upgraded security; the DART Board has also approved a 7.8 million USD contract for cleaning services from Texas Elite Facility Services, extending a current agreement to increase quality control measures and integrate the vendor with the operator’s internal maintenance system.
The contract will double the cleaning frequency for bus shelters, which is considered a priority as DART sets its sights on the installation of 1,200 new next-generation shelters – with 60 currently in service.
