The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has announced the launch of its NextGen Bus Network on 18 April 2026.
The result of the largest redesign of Atlanta’s bus network since the 1970s, the network will triple the number of corridors where a bus will arrive every 15 minutes or less.

Increased frequency along the network aims to connect riders to 75% more jobs within a 15-minute service corridor and 150,000 additional jobs within a 30-minute service corridor.
The network will also offer more frequent and consistent services seven days a week, with a large amount of routes running similar frequencies on both weekdays and weekends.
MARTA has now begun installing temporary signs at over 6,000 bus stops set to receive changes to their routes – marking the start of a months-long communications and outreach effort to inform riders ahead of time.
Travellers are advised to visit MARTA’s website to check their route and stop.
MARTA Interim General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt, said:We look forward to making sure customers are informed, prepared, and excited for the changes coming on April 18th.
These new bus stop signs are the first step in implementing a bus network that will be faster, more frequent, and better aligned with how our region travels today.
Throughout the spring, passengers will receive communications regarding the launch:
- December 2025: Temporary signs begin being installed at most bus stops where routes will change
- January 2026: Advertising and informational materials available on buses, trains, and digital platforms
- February 2026: Community events and informational sessions offer customers a chance to learn more about the new bus network
- March–April 2026: MARTA staff will be in rail station bus loops and on buses, helping customers prepare for the launch on April 18
MARTA is also set to provide on-demand transit services in 12 zones throughout the service area as part of the NextGen Bus Network. The MARTA Reach service will connect to the larger MARTA system, and provide curb-to-curb service anywhere within the MARTA Reach zone once it launches on 7 March 2026.
