VDL Completes First Customer Delivery of Futura 3 Coaches

VDL has announced the delivery the very-first VDL Futura 3 coaches to customers as the vehicles were handed over to Kupers Touringcars and De Baar Touringcars on 23 January.

The VDL Futura 3, which was initially unveiled at Busworld 2025 in Brussels, is the third generation of the VDL Futura line of vehicles, and aims to set a new benchmark for long-distance transport.

Four VDL Futura 3 12.9-metre single-deck buses have been supplied to Kupers Touringcars and De Baar Touringcars, with the latter set to receive one of its vehicles as part of a 100th anniversary celebration at a later date.

With the first vehicles now delivered to customers, the VDL Futura 3 is entering the next phase of practical operation.

Coach operators can now deploy the vehicle in their daily operations, while passengers will start experiencing the latest generation of the Futura on the road.

Utilising a combination of optimised aerodynamics, weight reduction and modern vehicle technology, the line is capable of saving up to 15% of fuel – allowing, according to VDL, for a lower cost and more sustainable fleet.

The vehicles also feature a modular design, allowing for reduced repair and maintenance costs, as well as a lower overall total cost of ownership (TCO).

During its development, VDL made considerable use of customer, driver and passenger feedback, resulting in a newly designed driver’s cabin with improved seating comfort and enhanced controls, in addition to a new interior, ambient lighting and temperature control for passengers.
