VDL Supplies 65 Mini/Midi Buses to Cyprus Public Transport

VDL Bus & Coach is supplying 65 mini/midi buses to Cyprus Public Transport (CPT) for the island of Cyprus. The total order consists of 15 VDL MidCitys and 50 VDL MidEuros. The first 4 MidCitys out of a total of 65 vehicles have recently been delivered. The new bus company CPT is the operator for the district of Nicosia and Larnaca. The new contract takes effect on 5 July and has a duration of 10 years.

The 15 MidCitys will operate mainly in the historic capital Nicosia and on quiet routes through Larnaca, where demand changes during the winter and summer seasons. The 50 VDL MidEuros will be used in the less populated areas, where these buses are the only means of public transport for local residents.

CEO of CPT, Julio Tironi, is pleased to provide the scheduled service in Cyprus with new modern low-floor buses:

“We are confident that our loyal customer will appreciate the modern design and comfort of these buses, and are looking forward to the delivery of the remaining 61 vehicles.”

Director of VDL Bus Venlo, Mark Francot, said:

“It makes me very proud that our VDL MidCity and VDL MidEuro are going into operation in this new market in Cyprus. The delivery of these versatile vehicles shows that VDL Bus & Coach, with its various products, can provide the right solution for every transport need.”

VDL MidCity

The 15 VDL MidCitys are developed entirely for public transport and have a multifunctional section with a low floor that is ideal for standing places or wheelchairs, for example. With its economical, environmentally friendly engine and optimal layout options, the MidCity is a special vehicle for sparsely populated areas. Its compact dimensions also make the MidCity an ideal vehicle for transport in city centres and metropolitan areas. The CPT vehicles have 14 seats, 11 standing places and a wheelchair space with associated ramp. This makes the vehicles easily accessible for disabled persons and prams. In addition, the vehicles have USB connections, a ticket console next to the driver and a double door that is no less than 1,240 mm wide. As the widest door in this segment, it guarantees a fast and easy flow of passengers.

VDL MidEuro

The VDL MidEuro is a compact coach that is fully geared to the luxury passenger transport segment. An ideal vehicle for travelling with small groups. However, thanks to an environmentally friendly engine and optimal layout options, the MidEuro can also be used as a cost-effective all-rounder for scheduled services. The 50 VDL MidEuros for Cyprus are being supplied in this public transport version and are equipped with 17 seats for passengers, 1 seat for the driver and 1 seat for the co-driver. By moving the seats around in the vehicle, it is possible to create a wheelchair space, which increases the flexibility of the VDL MidEuro.  The vehicle is also equipped with an electric sliding door and electric extendable entrance step, which the driver can operate via the dashboard. There are USB connections for both the driver and passengers, and payments can be made through the ticket console located next to the driver.
