From Monday, 23 February 2026, five new electric buses will enter service on the Dover Fastrack corridor, running between Dover Priory Station and Whitfield.

The introduction of the vehicles marks the final phase in establishing Dover Fastrack as South Kent’s first all-electric rapid transit bus system.

The move is set to significantly reduce local transport emissions while improving passenger comfort through quieter operation and modern onboard facilities.

Dover Fastrack first launched in November 2024, providing a rapid link across key growth areas and transport hubs in the town. An extended timetable was introduced in December 2025 to improve evening connections, particularly for passengers arriving on high-speed services from London St Pancras.

The electric fleet completes a long-term plan led by Kent County Council in partnership with Dover District Council and Stagecoach South East to deliver a higher-frequency, lower-emission bus network aligned with new housing development in Whitfield and the former Connaught Barracks site.

The Volvo BZL electric buses are designed to improve both environmental performance and passenger experience. Key features include zero exhaust emissions, a range of up to 300 kilometres on a single charge, and a full recharge time of approximately four and a half hours.

Each vehicle can carry up to 83 passengers and includes low-floor boarding, dedicated wheelchair spaces and USB charging points at every seat.

Funding contributions for the project include a grant from Homes England awarded to Dover District Council through the Housing Infrastructure Fund, alongside support from the Department for Transport through the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas scheme secured by Kent County Council. Additional investment has been provided by Stagecoach South East, which has purchased the new vehicles.

To mark the arrival of the new buses, Stagecoach South East will host a public showcase event at Pencester Road Bus Station on Sunday 22 February between 11 am and 3 pm. Visitors will be able to tour the vehicles, speak with staff, and learn more about the electric technology being introduced.
