Simultaneous Rollout at Five Depots
The Zurich Public Transport Operators (VBZ) have put the Depot Management System PEAK.DMS from Peak Mobility GmbH into operation at five depots. The system manages the scheduling of around 260 trams and supports VBZ in the digital planning and execution of depot processes.
Automated Parking Space Allocation and Vehicle Tracking
The system plans optimized rotations, taking into account the condition of vehicles and required maintenance work. Upon entering the depot, PEAK.DMS assigns a parking space to the vehicles within seconds – depending on maintenance needs, operational status, and the availability of parking spots.
Additionally, the software precisely locates each vehicle within the depots. This ensures that the location of every tram is always traceable, minimizes search times, and enables efficient process management.
Digital Workflow and System Architecture
The simultaneous rollout at five depots was based on a scalable system architecture that can be flexibly adapted to different operational workflows. This allows VBZ to digitally manage vehicle operations across all locations and provides comprehensive transparency over the entire operational situation.
At the heart of the system is a scheduling core based on integrated optimization software. This software calculates solutions for complex operational constraints within seconds and supports efficient vehicle scheduling. With PEAK.DMS, a seamless digital workflow is established – from vehicle entry into the depots, through maintenance and repair, to parking.
Planned Integration of Bus Fleet and E-Bus Management
For the coming year, 2026, the integration of the bus fleet is planned. The system will then also support the more complex scheduling of e-bus charging processes, taking into account intelligent charging time windows and energy consumption optimization.
With this, VBZ takes another step towards digitalized and sustainable operations management.
