Alexander Dennis has delivered 12 new Enviro400EV zero-emission electric double decker buses to Arriva London.
The delivery, which forms part of a larger order of 30 buses, marks the manufacturer’s first order of next-generation buses to enter service on Transport for London’s (TfL) behalf.

Arriva has now taken over operations along the SL6 route linking West Croydon and Russell Square during peak hours. The route also forms part of the Superloop network, which aims to improve connections and journey times between both London town centres and transport hubs, as well as selected corridors travelling into central London itself.
Neil Gladstone, Alexander Dennis National Account Manager, said:This delivery of our first TfL-specification Enviro400EV brings a new bus for London to the streets of the capital.
This delivery of our first TfL-specification Enviro400EV is a milestone in the roll-out of our next generation of electric buses and brings a new bus for London to the streets of the capital.
Initial operation has been trouble-free and monitoring through our comprehensive AD Connect telematics shows that the buses are performing as expected, with real-world efficiency in line with the route analysis calculations we made earlier. This gives us great confidence that these next-generation Enviro400EV will enjoy long operating lives underpinned by their 14-year, one million km warranty.
Each of the newly introduced Enviro400EV vehicles include blind spot monitoring, intelligent speed assistance, revised front geometry and a heavy-duty Voith Electrical Drive System, with energy storage handled by 472 kWh batteries.
Energy management and a zero-emission HVAC system have both been supplied by Grayson Thermal Systems, with overall testing having been overseen by the Zemo Partnership.
The NFI Group subsidiary is also due to deliver an additional 18 Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV units for use on TfL route 196.
Marcos Hart, Managing Director London at Arriva UK Bus, said:We’re delighted to have placed this exciting order with the team at Alexander Dennis and to be the first operator to bring these state-of-the-art buses to London. This latest milestone builds on the millions of pounds we have already invested in creating the clean, electrified and high performing fleet that our customers deserve – helping to encourage even more people to travel sustainably on public transport.
