Alexander Dennis has announced receipt of an order from Arriva UK Bus for an additional set of 164 new Enviro200 and Enviro400 low-emission buses, bringing the total of recent deployments to 221.

The order consists of 113 Alexander Dennis Enviro200 single-deck buses and 51 Enviro400 double-deckers, and will stand as the single largest order Arriva has placed with Alexander Dennis to date.

All vehicles are expected to be allocated to 15 depots across England and Wales once delivered throughout summer and autumn 2026.

Of the 164 vehicles delivered; 97 of the Enviro200 will measure 11.8 metres in length and be fitted with heavier-duty six-cylinder engines, whilst 11 10.8 metre and five 8.9 metre examples will utilise four-cylinder engines. All Enviro400 double-deckers will measure 10.5 metres in length and 4.2 metres in height.

The order follows a recent delivery of 57 similar low-emission buses at the start of the year, including 50 new Enviro200 and Enviro400 buses for West Yorkshire which were officially launched on 13 March at an event in Wakefield.

All of Arriva’s new buses will use Alexander Dennis’ SmartPack efficiency technology, which aims to bring down exhaust emissions and improve fuel economy, giving the vehicles an official low-emission bus status and qualifying Arriva UK Bus for Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) incentive payments.

Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Arriva UK Bus, said:

We are delighted to confirm a further sizeable order with Alexander Dennis for buses locally built in our North of England heartland, supporting the local economy.

The first are now entering service in our West Yorkshire operations, however the investment will see further new buses operating in every part of our UK operations. This builds upon a long-standing relationship with Alexander Dennis in delivering low-emission buses to provide high standards of service to our customers.

Last year, Arriva bought 30 next-generation Enviro400EV electric double-deckers for its London operations, with the new vehicles bringing the operator’s total investment into Alexander Dennis buses to 251 and rendering it the largest single beneficiary of Arriva’s current investment programme to transform and modernise its UK bus operations.
