BC Transit has confirmed that 66 electric buses are currently on order from Nova Bus and New Flyer to operate in British Columbia, Canada.

This will enable more communities in BC to benefit from zero-emission transport services.

In addition, nine communities throughout the province currently have transit electrification infrastructure projects underway.

Indeed, BC Transit expects to install approximately 134 new electric bus charging points over the next two years in Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, the Regional District of Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, Victoria and Whistler.

The number of buses allocated to each of these communities will be confirmed as the projects progress.

The 66 new electric buses are scheduled to arrive incrementally from early 2025, with the final deliveries taking place in mid-2026.

In the future, BC Transit will also procure additional electric buses with existing funding. This funding, totalling 395.5 million CAD for buses and infrastructure was announced in July 2023. The costs are shared with the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia and local government partners.

In total, BC Transit expects to procure 115 new battery electric buses under this funding.
