Saskatoon Transit has launched two new Nova Bus Nova LFSe+ electric buses as part of its public transit fleet in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The agency initially piloted a battery-electric bus over a 12-month period from July 2020. This project aimed to evaluate the performance and feasibility of deploying electric buses in Saskatoon’s climate.

Following the project’s success, the City Council approved the purchase of two electric buses as part of its 115.4 million CAD fleet renewal strategy.

Michael Moellenbeck, Director of Saskatoon Transit said:

This is an exciting step toward building a transit fleet that meets current and future ridership demands and our long-term sustainability goals.

Access to safe and efficient public transportation is an effective way to cut greenhouse gas emissions, and these battery-electric buses are an example of how we can reach environmental targets and provide a cleaner option for Saskatoon.

The agency’s transition to battery-electric buses contributes to the City’s target of reducing CO2e emissions by 55,000 tonnes by 2050.

In addition, the City aims to increase transit trips by 5% by 2030 and 10% by 2050.
