Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK) has placed its fourth order of Solaris hydrogen-powered buses to operate in Cologne, Germany.
The recent order comprises nine Urbino 12 hydrogen buses and eleven articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses. With this addition, Cologne’s hydrogen fleet will include 84 Solaris buses. 46 of these vehicles are already in operation, while an additional 18 are in the production pipeline.
Delivery of the newly ordered buses is slated for the first half of 2025. This order reinforces Cologne’s commitment to advancing hydrogen technology within its public transit system.
Dr. Marcel Frank, Managing Director of RVK, said:Step by step we are getting closer to meeting our goal: no emissions at all. Working together with local authorities and our transportation board, we invested very early in hydrogen solutions, including the appropriate infrastructure. As a result, as a major regional carrier, we already have a full hydrogen mobility network in place.
The Urbino 12 and Urbino 18 hydrogen buses ordered by RVK will feature fuel cells with powers of 70 kW and 100 kW respectively. They will have a guaranteed range of 350 kilometres under varying environmental conditions to offer efficient and reliable transportation options in Cologne.
The new models will also be equipped with modern amenities such as high-efficiency air conditioning and advanced passenger information systems.
Christian Goll, Managing Director of Solaris Deutschland GmbH said:For us, another order for Solaris hydrogen buses of this number demonstrates the high level of confidence in our company and its products. It's also a sign that the development toward innovative and emission-free public transportation is progressing rapidly. We are proud that RVK, as a pioneer in this field, has once again opted for our vehicles and that our long-standing, trusting cooperation can be further strengthened in this way.
