Solaris has signed a contract to deliver 56 articulated electric buses for transport operator, AarBus in Aarhus, Denmark.
The new Urbino 18 buses will be delivered in two tranches, with the first 31 units scheduled to be delivered in 2024 and the remaining vehicles arriving in 2025. They will join 29 existing Solaris electric buses that have been operating in AarBus’s fleet since last year.
Olivier Michard, Member of the Management Board of Solaris Bus & Coach said:We are extremely proud of the many years of trust that AarBus has placed in us. We are convinced that our electric buses with advanced equipment will serve the residents of Aarhus with comfort without affecting the environment. This is another step in our mission to provide innovative transport solutions that contribute to improving air quality in cities.
This order advances Aarhus’ goal of providing a fossil-free public transport network by 2030.
The new vehicles will be powered by energy from Solaris High Energy batteries, which have a capacity of over 450kWh.
The buses will also be equipped with an air conditioning system to maintain optimal thermal conditions and will be fitted with double glazing to help improve thermal insulation.
Nicolaj Bang, Aarhus Technology and Environment Councilor said:The fact that we are almost doubling the number of electric buses means that almost 80% of our buses will run on electricity. The obvious advantage is that they produce less noise and that this will also have a big impact on our reduction of CO2 emissions and lower diesel consumption. Therefore, this is an important step in the right direction, offering the people of Aarhus a greener way to get around the municipality.
Solaris and AarBus have been collaborating since 2006. To date, the manufacturer has delivered 227 buses to the operator, including 29 electric buses.
