FlixBus has introduced a second fully electric coach on its long-distance route between Lisbon and Porto, expanding its electric operations in Portugal.
The two battery-electric coaches are currently the only fully electric vehicles operating on scheduled long-distance coach services across the Iberian Peninsula.
The newly deployed vehicle completes a daily round trip between the two cities, operating for around 6.5 hours each day.
Meanwhile, Flix’s first electric coach has now completed a full year of service, covering more than 215,000 kilometres while operating on 352 days of the year.
With both coaches now in operation, Flix estimates that the expanded electric fleet will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 300 tonnes per year compared with conventional diesel vehicles.
The deployment demonstrates that battery-electric coaches can be integrated into regular long-distance operations as charging infrastructure and vehicle technology continue to develop.
The project has been delivered in partnership with Portuguese energy company EDP and coach operator AV Feirense, which support the operation of the electric vehicles on the Lisbon–Porto corridor.
