LibertyBus, the current operator of bus services in Jersey, USA, has been awarded a ten-year continuation contract by the Government of Jersey.
This contract award follows a comprehensive two-stage tender process.
As part of this contract, LibertyBus will introduce 22 ‘ultra-low emission’, high-capacity buses that are to replace older vehicles within the first year of the new contract. The remaining fleet will be refurbished during the early stages of the contract to improve those vehicles’ comfort and reliability.
Over the full ten-year period LibertyBus will replace the entire fleet to meet the Government of Jersey’s carbon-neutral aims.
LibertyBus says it will also provide a greater number of routes and a higher level of service frequencies than required by the tender, adding services on top of the ones it already runs.
It will introduce self-service ticket machines at Liberation Station and ‘faster ticketing systems’ are to be installed throughout the fleet to enable faster, more efficient passenger boarding.
Constable Andy Jehan, Minister for Infrastructure, said:This new contract reflects the Government’s commitment to improving public transport while supporting our carbon-neutral ambitions. We are pleased to continue our partnership with LibertyBus and look forward to seeing the positive impact of the new buses and service for Islanders.
The new contract will come into effect from 6 April 2025.
