Transport for London (TfL) has launched the new SL12 Superloop bus route, connecting Gants Hill, Romford, Elm Park and Rainham.

The route entered service on Saturday 5 September, marking the Superloop network’s first expansion into Havering. It also provides the first bus connection to the Ferry Lane Industrial Estate.

The SL12 provides links to Romford and the Elizabeth line, the District line at Elm Park and the Central line at Newbury Park and Gants Hill. It also serves King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital.

The route operates from around 05:30 to 00:30 daily, with buses every 12 minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes during evenings and on Sundays. The service uses zero-emission electric buses equipped with air conditioning, passenger information displays and device charging points.

Lorna Murphy, TfL's Director of Buses, said:

We're thrilled to be able to deliver yet another Superloop express bus service for Londoners, with services on the game-changing network now expanding into Havering for the first time. The SL12 will boost travel and journey times in northeast and east London, taking people across the area to local shops and amenities and onwards to fast and convenient Elizabeth line and Tube connections at Romford, Newbury Park, Elm Park and Gants Hill. We're also excited to be able to offer customers free journeys on the SL12 for the first week and I'd encourage everyone in the area to try out this new, sustainable, accessible transport link.

Pay-as-you-go travel on the SL12 is free until 23:59 on 11 September. Passengers must use a valid Oyster card, contactless card or device and touch in when boarding.

The addition of the SL12 brings the Superloop network to providing more than 81 million journeys since its launch in 2023.
