FIAA, the international bus and coach fair, is currently taking place in Madrid.
During the event, bus manufacturers have been presenting their latest vehicles.
Irizar
- The Irizar i3 Integral Class II electric vehicle is the company’s entry into the intercity sector. This bus has a range of more than 400km on a single charge. Thanks to the use of lighter, stronger materials in its construction, this vehicle weighs 1000kg less than other vehicles in the Irizar range. It is equipped with cameras and radar to ensure driver and passenger safety.
- The Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen bus was first unveiled at Busworld last year. Irizar says this vehicle is part of its goal of offering a complete range of ‘zero-emission’ vehicles for both short and long-distance routes. This bus has a range of 1000km and a charging time of 20 minutes. Irizar says one of the benefits of this charging time is that operators won’t have to change their existing timetables to accommodate this new technology. The bus can also run in 100 percent electric mode for short periods, should this be needed.
- The Irizar ie tram, a 12-metre electric bus, is Irizar’s flagship electric vehicle. It is already operational in Madrid and Barcelona, London, Geneva, Mérida, Bayonne, Schaffenhausen and other locations. In Madrid, it operates on the city’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) line.
Karsan
- Vehicles on display: e-JEST, the autonomous e-ATAK, the only Level 4 autonomous bus globally carrying passengers in regular traffic, and the e-ATA HYDROGEN
- During the event, Karsan announced its new organisational structure and strategic goals for the Spanish market, where it is preparing to operate under its own umbrella by acquiring all of its Spanish representative E-buskar. Karsan said it wanted to replicate its success from markets where it ranked among the top three in Europe, such as Luxembourg, France, Romania, Italy and Portugal.
Iveco
- E-WAY H2, a fuel cell city bus, featuring a 100kW Hyundai fuel cell with a 69kWh FPT Industrial battery pack. The hydrogen fuel cell is situated close to the rear of the bus and is powered by four hydrogen tanks with a capacity of 31kg. These are located on the vehicle’s roof. The 12m E-WAY H2 has space for up to 111 passengers (29 of them seated with 1 wheelchair space) and has a range of 450km.
- CROSSWAY LE ELEC, a 12m low-entry bus that is a 100 percent electric intercity vehicle. It is available as a Class I for urban use and as a Class II for suburban operations. The 12m version offers 44 seats, the 13m version has 48 seats. The vehicle requires a few hours for recharging at the depot using a COMBO CCS2 socket. It is also available with operational charging by ascending or descending pantograph. It has a range of around 400km.
- A hybrid version of this bus is also available, the ‘CROSSWAY hybrid’. At FIAA, Iveco is displaying a 13m version that has an internal layout capable of seating 53 passengers. It is also available in 10.8m and 12m versions.
