Norway: Yutong’s U2 Electric Bus Completes Arctic Circle Testing

Yutong’s U12 battery electric bus has completed an extreme cold challenge in the Arctic Circle.

In a live test covering 105 kilometres, the vehicle operated in Kirkenes, Norway at temperatures of -33°C. During operation, it demonstrated a power consumption of 1.56 kw/km in a harsh ice and snow environment.

To enable its vehicles to operate in extreme climates, Yutong uses anti-corrosion technologies for components such as bearing structures and chassis frames, as well as corrosion-prone bottom areas.

What’s more, its IP68 protection system for battery, motor and electric components provides the vehicle with water-resistant properties for wading through snow.

To meet the needs of customers in Norway, Yutong has also developed a range of features including a high-power heating radiator, an antiskid chain, seat heating, an electric telescopic step and a 360 panoramic view system.

These specifications enable the manufacturer to supply its buses in polar communities. Indeed, in 2020, Norway purchased 102 Yutong battery electric buses, which set a record for the largest single order in Europe.

Now, the number of Yutong battery electric buses operating in Norway totals 331.
