Siemens Smart Infrastructure has signed a contract with Unibuss, which operates buses in the Greater Oslo (Norway) region.

Siemens will deliver its Depot360 Managed Services solution that is designed to optimise the operations of fleets and charging infrastructure. This is the first contract for Siemens Smart Infrastructure’s Depot360 in the country.

The Depot360 Managed Services tool assists electric bus operators with the challenges they face, such as harsh winter conditions and the need for round-the-clock monitoring of vehicle charging. Depot360 has smart charging capabilities, enabling it to deliver the right amount of energy without exceeding grid capacity, while also allowing remote monitoring of bus charging status for stable operations and reduced energy consumption. This tool is part of Siemens’s Xcelerator.

Henrik Anderberg, Technical Director, Unibuss, said:

Transitioning to electric fleets is a vital step for Norway to achieve its ambitious climate goals and for setting a global example for greener transportation.

So too is implementing the right technology in order to optimise the efficiency of electric fleets. With Depot360 Managed Services, we can enhance the efficiency of our operations by optimising charging, reducing energy costs and improving route completion rates. Such streamlining of operations supports our sustainability goals, helping us contribute to a greener future and reduce our carbon footprint in public transportation.

The Depot360 AI Platform allows the Siemens team at the Network Operating Center to continuously leverage fleet-centric algorithms to both monitor and manage the performance of the charging infrastructure. Should any issues arise, these can be quickly identified and resolved with data-driven decision. Load shifting and peak shaving features will allow Unibuss to generate even greater energy cost reductions.

Alan White, Head of Emerging Transportation Platforms at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said:

As we look to accelerate the electrification of transportation, Siemens is keen to innovate with forward-thinking organisations such as Unibuss.

Depot360 Managed Services, part of our digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator, will be a game-changer for Unibuss' operations. We look forward to demonstrating how our data-driven platform and expert NOC team can deliver more reliable, efficient, and transparent fleet operations, even in the most challenging environments.

Unibuss has 259 electric buses in its fleet. It is a subsidiary of Oslo’s municipal transport company Sporveien AS and transports 70 million people a year on 51 different bus routes.
