Scandinavian public transport operator, Connect Bus has ordered 42 electric Sigma 7 buses from Mellor for Västraffik’s Flex line demand responsive transport (DRT) service in Gothenberg, Sweden.

This service allows passengers to book journeys across Gothenberg by phone. The vehicles will operate on flexible routes and will stop at virtual ‘meeting places’ assigned to each trip.

Connect Bus order for 42 Sigma 7 electric buses continues Mellor’s success in Sweden

The ordered buses will join Connect Bus’ existing fleet of Mellor Orion E minibuses introduced in March 2020. They will be delivered from Q2 2023 by BK invest, Mellor’s Scandinavian distribution partner.

Mellor will equip the Sigma 7 vehicles with low-energy climate control systems, passenger and pedestrian safety features and flexible charging capabilities that use both depot and publicly-available chargers.

Gustavo Marqueta, Group Business Development Director at Mellor said:

The Mellor Orion E has been instrumental in delivering the Västraffik Flex line service for several years. The new, Sigma 7 buses are the next step for Västraffik Flex line services, combining the flexibility of a minibus with the features expected from big bus design and technology.

Our Sigma 7 is the smallest in a new range of electric buses designed to meet today’s passenger and operational needs and is the perfect fit for established DRT operations looking to switch to an all-electric service.

This latest order strengthens Mellor’s position in the Nordic market.

The British manufacturer has also recently delivered the first of four Sigma 7s to Nobina for use in Gothenburg.
