US: Blue Bird Delivers Its 1,500th Electric School Bus

Blue Bird has delivered its 1,500th electric school bus to Modesto City Schools in California.

This vehicle was procured through Blue Bird’s authorised school bus dealer, A-Z Bus Sales to complete Modesto City Schools’ fleet of 30 electric buses.

It joins a network of 1,500 Blue Bird zero-emission buses now in service in 42 states across the US.

By deploying these vehicles in the place of diesel-powered school buses, a saving of approximately 16,000 metric tonnes of carbon is achieved each year.

Additionally, the electric buses provide health benefits to over 110,000 students by reducing their exposure to harmful diesel tailpipe emissions.

Dr. Sara Noguchi, Superintendent of Modesto City Schools said:

“The completion of our fleet of electric buses is just one of many steps we are taking toward environmental sustainability at Modesto City Schools. This project speaks to the impact that any district can choose to have – by committing to environmental sustainability and prioritising dollars and effort toward that goal.”

To continue its mission of decarbonising school buses, Blue Bird also recently inaugurated its Electric Vehicle (EV) Build-up Center, which has increased its production capacity to 5,000 electric school buses annually.

Each of these zero-emission school buses is equipped with the electric PowerDrive 7000 system, which was developed through Blue Bird’s collaboration with Accelera by Cummins.

Britton Smith, President of Blue Bird Corporation said:

“Blue Bird is recognised as the technology leader and innovator of low- and zero-emission school buses. We are proud to celebrate this major milestone with Modesto City Schools and all our valued customers across North America.

“The demand for clean and sustainable school bus transportation remains high. Therefore, Blue Bird continues to significantly expand its electric school bus production.”
