Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) first long-range electric bus has begun regular revenue service on Route 20.

The Proterra ZX5 Max electric bus is equipped with six lithium-ion battery packs and has a range of almost 300 miles.

Each battery pack stores 112.5kWh of charge, providing a total of 675kWh. To enhance the vehicle’s efficiency, regenerative braking captures the energy normally lost to heat and returns it to the battery packs.
