US bus manufacturer ENC has received an order from Academy Bus for the supply of 10 additional 40-foot AXESS heavy-duty clean diesel transit buses.

The announcement was made at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Mobility Conference in Salt Lake City, where ENC is exhibiting its transit vehicle range.

The latest agreement follows Academy Bus orders for 25 buses placed during 2025, bringing its total purchases of AXESS vehicles from ENC to 35 buses. The vehicles are expected to support the operator’s contract service operations for existing customers.

ENC’s Altoona-tested AXESS platform is built with a 304-grade stainless steel body structure and is available with several propulsion options, including clean diesel, compressed natural gas, diesel-electric hybrid and battery-electric configurations. The buses are also designed to meet ADA accessibility requirements and can be configured with different floorplans and mobility features.

Jason Lee, chief executive of ENC, said:

Academy is one of the most respected private operators in North America, and a third consecutive order is the clearest possible validation of the work our team is doing in Riverside. We are proud to support Academy’s growth with vehicles that perform, with people who follow through, and with a partnership we earn order after order.

Academy Bus, headquartered in Hoboken, New Jersey, operates more than 1,200 buses from over 20 locations between Boston and Miami. The company provides charter, commuter, inter-city, contract and university shuttle services. Academy first purchased transit buses from ENC in 2015.

David Lehmkuhl, Vice President of Real Estate at Academy Bus said:

Our ongoing experience with ENC has given us full confidence in the quality, reliability, and disciplined build process behind every AXESS bus. That confidence is what brought us back for a third order. ENC consistently delivers vehicles that perform in demanding service, and we look forward to putting these new buses to work for our customers.

The latest 10 buses will be produced at ENC’s ISO 9001-certified manufacturing facility in Jurupa Valley, California. The 227,000-square-foot site manages production processes, including frame welding and final inspection.

ENC’s parent company Rivaz has invested more than 50 million USD in facility upgrades, workforce development and expansion plans since acquiring the business in 2024.
