The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced the inclusion of two additional bus routes to its Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) programme.

On Monday 16 March, a 60-day warning period will begin on both the Q60 and B12 bus routes in Queens and Brooklyn, with any vehicle user found in violation liable for fines.

Vehicles found improperly using busways and bus lanes, blocking bus stops, or illegally double parked will receive warning notices in the mail for an initial period of 60 days followed by summonses thereafter, which will begin at 50 USD and escalate to 250 USD for any and all repeat violators.

The two routes join the enforcement plan already in place on across 56 routes, with 1,600 buses now equipped with ACE and covering 560 miles of routes.

Since the introduction of the ACE programme in July 2024; bus speeds across all enabled routes have seen improvements, with a selection seeing gains of nearly 30%. All routes have also experienced a 20% reduction in collisions and a 5-10% estimated reduction in emissions. There has also been a 40% reduction in bus stops being blocked by vehicles on ACE routes.
