VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg (VAG Nuremberg) has taken delivery of 31 new battery-electric articulated Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G buses, bringing the operator’s electric bus fleet to over 100 vehicles.
This milestone was celebrated on 7 May 2025 with the handover of bus number 417 at VAG’s Jaeckelstrasse premises.

VAG Nuremberg now operates 77 eCitaro models—making up nearly 70% of its electric fleet. The articulated buses feature four entrance doors, advanced safety systems, and a battery capacity of 686 kWh, allowing a range of up to 300 km under average conditions.
All vehicles are charged at VAG’s Schweinau eBus port or the adjacent modernised garage, both equipped with comprehensive charging infrastructure powered by locally sourced green electricity.
The eCitaro G buses aim to offer significant benefits for passengers and the community, including low-noise operation, enhanced comfort, and high safety standards. Each bus can carry up to 124 passengers and is fitted with advanced features such as Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, and a suite of driver assistance systems.
Passenger amenities include 37 seats, USB charging ports, air conditioning with a CO₂ heat pump, antiviral air filters, ambient LED lighting, and onboard infotainment via two 29-inch monitors.
VAG Nuremberg, which operates around 200 buses across over 50 routes, is transitioning its entire fleet to battery-electric by the early 2030s.
