Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein Relies on PSIebus
- Dispatching system for electric buses ensures optimal vehicle availability
The Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) has commissioned PSI Transcom GmbH with implementing the depot management system for electric buses PSIebus for their eleven depots run. This delivery comprises modules for vehicle dispatching, reservation and detection as well as interfaces to subsystems, in particular the urban platform of the city of Hamburg and the charging management system applied by VHH.
PSIebus will optimize the disposition of vehicles across all depots to prevent the cancelation of blocks, to ensure optimal utilization of garage capacity, planning and monitoring of fueling and cleaning intervals, and the minimization of vehicle downtimes. The basis for this is the flexible automatic vehicle dispatching which takes into account various parking plans as well as a variety of restrictions. Via the vehicle detection system, the vehicles are reliably detected as they pass through to the various depot areas to enable reliable dispatching from there.
In particular, the ongoing changeover to electric buses at VHH requires this system in order to control the necessary charging processes via an interface to the external charging management and to be able to consider and optimize varying energy consumption.
The implementation of PSIebus will increase the transparency of the processes as well as the information of everyone involved on vehicle status and position, while also detecting and minimizing risks – in particular vehicle defects – during dispatching. This will reduce operating and follow-up costs and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and garages.
VHH is a partner within the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (Hamburg Transport Association) and the second-largest bus operator in Northern Germany. The company operates city and regional bus routes in Hamburg as well as urban and local transport services in surrounding areas. Around 700 busses serve approx. 1,800 stops on 153 routes. Every year, more than 106.6 million passengers use the services of VHH to travel around 34 million kilometers.
Based on its own software products, PSI Group develops and integrates complete solutions for optimizing the flow of energy and material for utilities (energy networks, energy trading, public transport) and industry (metals production, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics). PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 2,000 persons worldwide.
