Wrightbus has demonstrated its 6-metre battery-electric bus on the Isle of Man as part of a week-long visit to showcase the vehicle’s suitability for local bus services.
The demonstration took place during the island’s history celebrations, with the manufacturer presenting the vehicle as a potential option for future public transport operations. The bus was tested across the island to demonstrate how it could support local mobility requirements.
The compact battery-electric vehicle has capacity for 22 passengers, including 12 seated and 10 standing. Wrightbus states that it offers a driving range of up to 112 miles (180km) on a single charge and can be recharged in approximately 37 minutes.
The bus is equipped with ZF-WABCO electronically controlled air suspension and an EBS3 electronic braking system, alongside a 12kW air conditioning system that provides both heating and cooling.
Wrightbus offers a two-year or 124,000-mile vehicle warranty, a five-year or 186,000-mile warranty on the drivetrain, and an eight-year or 372,000-mile warranty for the battery.
The demonstration was supported by Bus Vannin, the Isle of Man’s public bus operator, and GoBus UK, which provided the vehicle for the visit.
The demonstration forms part of Wrightbus’s efforts to showcase its smaller battery-electric bus to operators considering zero-emission vehicles for routes where larger buses may not be required.
