Bermuda’s Department of Public Transportation (DPT) has received 10 new electric buses as part of its programme to transition the island’s public transport fleet to electric vehicles.
The buses arrived on 18 August. They form part of a 20-bus order placed with Golden Dragon Bus Company earlier this year, with the remaining 10 vehicles expected to arrive next week.

Once all 20 buses have been delivered, DPT’s electric fleet will comprise 90 buses. The department plans to order a further 20 buses later in 2026, with those vehicles expected to enter service in early 2027.
The final order is intended to bring the total number of electric buses in the fleet to 110 and complete the current electrification programme. Older diesel buses that have reached the end of their service lives will then be retired as the new vehicles are commissioned.
Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, said:The arrival of these buses is another important milestone in our commitment to a modern, reliable and sustainable public transportation system. We remain focused on achieving 100 percent fleet electrification by 2030, while ensuring that the travelling public benefits from improved service and reliability.
The latest delivery is DPT’s third electric bus order from Golden Dragon. The department ordered 30 buses from the manufacturer in 2022, followed by a further 40 in 2023 and the latest 20-bus order in 2026.
The additional electric buses are expected to increase service capacity and reliability while reducing operating costs. The programme is also intended to support the government’s target of moving to a fully electrified bus fleet by 2030.
