Red Dot Digital Media has completed a recent Metro corridor rebuild project, installing digital kiosks for the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) in Louisville, Kentucky.
The overall project included eight branded buses and 36 stations with informatics, fibre connectivity, and traffic signal priority along the corridor.
TARC’s 36 transit stations now feature a network of digital kiosks that continuously receive GPS co-ordinates from the agency’s buses to provide real-time information and expected stop times.
The kiosks were designed and developed by Red Dot to translate data into visual and spoken information for passengers waiting at transit stations. The kiosks display next bus information for the next ten arriving buses, and provide estimated arrival times for the next four.
David Herde, TARC ITS Engineer, said:Red Dot has been the stellar partner in the corridor informatics portion of the project. They’re wonderful to work with, proactive and on time. They provided a beautiful and functional solution that not only meets our vision and requirements, but soars above and beyond our expectations.
The kiosks also display important TARC Service Alerts and provide information about potential disruptions by pulling data from TARC’s Google real-time feed.
Each kiosk presents this information in a rotating feed that includes a complete route map, a map of the local stop area, locations of incoming buses, and a weather forecast.
