Sicilian carrier, AMTS Catania, has ordered a further 42 electric buses from Solaris.

The order, which is part of a framework contract signed in 2022 with the Italian central purchasing body, Consip S.p.A., will see 32 12-metre Urbino 12 electric units and 10 articulated Urbino 18 electric units put into use in the port of Catania from 2024.

The new order will bring the total of Urbino 12 electric buses in Sicily to 39

This is in addition to a previous order from the carrier which saw Solaris providing 7 Urbino 12 electric buses for the city at the beginning of the year, with another 11 to be delivered by the end.

Olivier Michard, Member of the Management Board for Sales and Marketing, said:

We are extremely proud of the trust placed in our company by the carrier AMTS Catania, which has ordered another batch of zero-emission buses from our company. We are happy to be able to support the green transition of transport in Catania and to deliver more innovative solutions for the inhabitants of this lovely Sicilian port.

The electric buses will be equipped with an electric central traction motor, which is powered by Solaris High Energy batteries, and will be charged by a combination of pantograph chargers and standard plug-in connectors in bus depots.
