Order of 46 Volvo Double Deckers Brings Total to 500 in Hong Kong

  • The order is testament to Volvo Buses’ strong market presence in the city and its close partnership with KMB, Hong Kong’s largest bus operator. It follows the delivery of 40 Volvo B8L units in late 2020 and will take the total number of Volvo B8L double deck buses in traffic to 500.

The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (KMB) has awarded Volvo Buses the contract for 46 Volvo B8L Euro VI double deck buses. The units are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2022.

The Volvo B8L is well known for its superior fuel-efficiency.

Volvo Buses has a strong and long-standing presence in Hong Kong that has steadily expanded since the early 1980s. For over 20 years, Volvo Buses has maintained a successful relationship with KMB, one of the world’s largest operators of double decker buses. KMB carries around one billion commuters annually in Hong Kong. It is a huge passenger capacity that calls for comfortable and reliable buses.

Emmanuel Jupet, Director, Volvo Buses APAC North, commented:

We are very honoured that KMB continues to place its confidence in Volvo buses and are proud to be associated with a company that moves public transport forward in Hong Kong.

The Volvo B8L is well known for its superior fuel-efficiency, excellent passenger comfort and good drivability. The newly acquired Volvo B8L will be supplied as 12.8-metre buses fitted with solar panels and offering a passenger capacity of up to 141 passengers. The buses offer high safety standards and will feature Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Downhill Road Speed Limit (DRSL) and three-point safety seat belts.
