Alexander Dennis has announced a significant order from Stagecoach for 244 next-generation zero-emission buses.

This order represents the largest single procurement of electric buses in Alexander Dennis’ history.

To facilitate this order, Stagecoach collaborated with various local authorities in England to secure funding through the UK government’s Zero-Emission Regional Bus Areas (ZEBRA) scheme.

Claire Miles, CEO of Stagecoach said:

We are thrilled to place the largest electric vehicle order with Alexander Dennis. These 244 new buses demonstrate our commitment to transitioning to a zero-emission fleet. We will continue our efforts to combat climate change and connect communities across the UK sustainably and efficiently.

The order includes 180 Enviro400EV double-decker buses, which will join a fleet of similar vehicles currently being integrated with funding from the earlier ZEBRA 1 initiative.

The Enviro400EV is noted for its energy efficiency, consuming just 0.67 kWh/km over the UK Bus Cycle. It features 472 kWh batteries and offers an energy throughput of up to 1.6 GWh.

Additionally, Stagecoach will acquire 54 Enviro200EV buses in two sizes: 10.9 metres and 11.7 metres. This order marks the debut of Alexander Dennis’s new integral single-decker model, set to enhance their next-generation electric bus lineup upon its launch next year.

Finally, the order includes 10 Enviro100EV buses. These compact 8.5-metre buses are designed for town services, offering high manoeuvrability along with the durability and comfort of larger buses. The Enviro100EV’s 354 kWh batteries ensure a substantial operational range.

The buses from this order will be delivered to Stagecoach’s operating companies across England in 2025 and 2026.

Paul Davies, President & Managing Director of Alexander Dennis said:

This landmark deal with Stagecoach underscores the benefits of our next-generation electric buses, designed to provide an attractive total cost of ownership. Our platform approach to vehicle development, with common parts and solutions across the range, enhances their drivability and maintenance. The Enviro100EV, Enviro200EV, and Enviro400EV will collectively drive value through efficiency, longevity, and flexibility.
