The Ticketer Way

Democratising Technology for Public Transport

We’re committed, some might say obsessed, with making public transport better, for both operators and passengers. For over a decade, we have been building a platform for the public transport ecosystem that aims to benefit every operator equally. In real terms, that means years of developments improving on the product’s features as part of the core Ticketer license and we’re continuously improving and innovating, so that as things change, like account-based ticketing (ABT) and frictionless travel, our operators are ready.

Products That Are Perfect for Purpose

When we develop our technology, we have a saying: “perfect for purpose.” That means it’s innovative technology, but it works in the real world without you having to be a techie. It’s built to be reliable and easy to use for drivers and operators, because the most sophisticated tech should feel simple.

A New-Tech Company with Old-Fashioned Values

We’re future facing but we do things with a nod to the past. You’ll see it in the way we stick to our word, and do things for the right reason (even if that doesn’t put cash in our pocket), like including ongoing updates without extra charge.

More Than Just a Ticket Machine

As the UK’s leading provider, whether you’ve got a fleet of 5 or 5000, there’s a Ticketer Electronic Ticket Machine (ETM) model to suit you. We provide single, on-vehicle devices with integrated functionality to reduce the need for extra kit on the bus, and to give you much, much more than just a ticketing device.

Our ETMs, as well as accepting multiple forms of fare payments, track service compliance to timetables, can be used to keep in touch with drivers, tracks vehicles and provides valuable reporting data, captures driver vehicle checks, and are always online, providing access anywhere at anytime.

Everything you need for smart, intuitive, efficient ticketing, all in one place.

Data Driven Technology

Our cloud-based back-office management and reporting system delivers the Electronic Ticket Machine (ETM) functionality in an easy to use web-based system. The Ticketer Portal allows operators to manage all their data from anywhere with an internet connection, so nothing needs to be installed onsite. Managing data is simple, and for multiple sources of data, Ticketer have numerous data import facilities.

The Next Step in Passenger Ticketing

Account Based Ticketing (ABT) is seen to be the next step in passenger ticketing. Two key features of an ABT scheme are post-pay ticketing and capping. By charging the passenger for the trips they have made and not the trips they think they will make and then potentially capping the fare paid, ABT offers new levels of flexible ticketing, for both the operator and passenger, with a financial incentive for passengers to adopt.

Supporting Multiple Payment Options

Our smart integrated ETMs support multiple payment options, meaning operators can meet the changing needs of passengers, and passengers can pay in a way that suits them, all the while improving boarding times for everyone. From Contactless EMV to mTicketing, and with Ticketer ETMs and TOR’s enabling passengers to Tap On / Tap Off, we’ve got most payment options covered. We see enabling Account Based Systems as the next generation of payment for mobility services. It’s more than just a technology; it is a new customer-relationship model that brings an incredible user experience.

Helping Operators to Meet Their Bus Open Data Requirements

Our Ticketer System already has the capability to manage the data required to meet the Bus Open Data Service (BODS) obligations and we’ve taken the additional steps to host everything for our operators, so providing the required information to the BODS system has never been easier. This data is constantly kept up to date, synchronised to the changes operators make to the system in normal day-to-day operation of the ticketing environment, with no further input or effort from operators.

We have been in constant communication with the DfT throughout the process and we will continue to do so. As the requirements change, we will continue to update our system to reflect those changes, so operators are always covered.

Effective Passenger Occupancy Management

A simple, but effective, enhancement to allow drivers to record passengers alighting the vehicle that together with the ticket transactions keep a total count of passengers on board, measured against capacity thresholds which are defined per vehicle. Drivers have full visibility of on-board passenger levels, removing pressure and giving them the confidence to manage the capacity of their bus.

Critical Road Restriction Functionality

Due to changing schedules, road closures and rail replacement services, drivers can often find themselves along unfamiliar routes where a restricted access, such as a width or height limit may prevent the safe passage for some buses.

Our Road Restriction feature alerts drivers when they are in the vicinity of a road with restricted access that cannot be accommodated by the vehicle the driver is currently driving.

Using the latest dataset of restricted roads across the UK, together with dimensions of the vehicles, the ETM can detect when the bus is approaching any restricted roads and warn the driver via a visible and audible alert.
