Yutong Launches “Race to Zero” Initiative before COP26

Yutong Launches a “Race to Zero” Initiative before the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, COP26

On the eve of the opening of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), as an invited representative, Yutong launched the “Race to Zero” initiative on October 28, together with the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and world well-known operators, and discussed with them about the new path to the energy conservation and carbon emission reduction in the area of public transport.

Transportation is one of the major sources of air pollution and carbon emissions on the earth. The realization of sustainable development requires harmonious coexistence between the transport and the nature. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech titled “Staying Connected with the World and Abreast with the Times, and Making Big Strides on the Path of Sustainable Development” at the opening ceremony of the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference held on October 14, 2021. He stressed that we should foster a green and low-carbon way of transport, step up green infrastructural development, promote new energy, smart, digital and light-weight transport equipment, and encourage and advocate green travel, to make transport and travel more environment-friendly and low-carbon.

Yutong has initiated a discussion about the path to energy conservation and carbon emission reduction in the area of public transport.

At the Conference, Yutong said it will insist on the innovation of new energy and autonomous driving technologies, accelerate R&D, manufacturing, promotion and application of zero-carbon and smart commercial vehicles, and explore the forward-looking layout of the pure electric and hydrogen energy industry chain. The company will promote the development of new energy bus systems and key components, establish a sustainable business model for new energy commercial vehicles, and help the global commercial vehicle sector to accelerate the process of “replace carbon with hydrogen”. It will drive the green development of urban transportation with intelligent technologies such as Internet of Vehicles (IoV), and make zero-emission and green travel benefit cities around the globe.

In addition to constant technology exploration and innovation, accelerating realization of green industry and supply chains is also Yutong’s major measure for boosting carbon emission reduction. Yutong will expedite the integration and upgrading of green intelligent manufacturing and Industrial Internet. Through cooperation with industrial chain partners, the company plans to explore new industries, new technologies, new business forms, and new models that are green and low carbon, focusing on public mobility, municipal administration, logistics and other fields. It will systematically promote green procurement, green packaging, green recycling, and green transport, and realize green procurement process for the entire chain, which is a systematic guarantee of green mobility in the future.

Yutong will also advocate public transport culture, enhance the proportion of green travel, and act as a responsible corporation. It is planning to partner with international organizations, associations, and institutions to launch not-for-profit bus culture campaigns continuously, inspire the public with the bus culture and improve public transport experience to attract more people for green travel.

General Manager of McGill's Buses told the media, said:

“Green travel requires joint participation of parties such as governments, citizens, manufacturers, and transport companies etc. Governments and enterprises should take into account the travel convenience of citizens in order to have more people taking public transport. Chinese enterprises are capable of manufacturing high-quality products. Yutong products are reliable with high endurance mileage. The company provides full-cycle reliable services from delivery, training through to after-sales. We made a right choice.”

As a leader in China’s bus industry, Yutong shared in the discussion the achievements it has attained in energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. It has set up a “Zero Emission Team” in cooperation with local public transport operators. Chang Hao, Director of Overseas Distribution Sales of Yutong Bus, said that “Yutong Bus will join hands with public transport partners to offer the public better travel experience, and help users create more commercial value, and that the company actively promotes green public mobility and encourages more people to participate in the zero-emission and green travel, boosting implementation of the Race to Zero action with the help of all citizens and to take good care for our clear water and blue sky.”

At present, Yutong has mastered new energy technologies of BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as well as autonomous driving technologies of commercial vehicles. The company has sold accumulatively more than 150,000 new energy commercial vehicles, which help to reduce fuel and gas consumption by 2.133 billion litres and 335 million cubic meters respectively each year and lessen accumulatively carbon emissions by about 23.25 million tons.
