The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) has deployed four new battery-electric vehicles to support its all-electric bus services.

AVTA provides local, commuter and on-demand services in Lancaster, Palmdale and northern Los Angeles County, covering 1,200 square miles of California.

The all-electric 2023 Chevrolet Bolts were purchased from Antelope Valley Chevrolet.

In 2020, AVTA became the first transit agency in North America to operate an all-electric local bus fleet. Following this, it then started operating the continent’s first all-electric commuter fleet in 2022.

The agency is now adding battery-electric support vehicles to its fleet.

AVTA Chairman of the Board Marvin Crist said:

The AVTA Board continues to hold to our vision of an all-electric transit agency, including support vehicles. We are very pleased that AVTA was able to fulfill the RFP from a local business here in the Antelope Valley.

The purchase of the new electric vehicles was approved in June 2022. The AVTA Chevy Bolts have now made their first appearance with custom-designed wraps to complement AVTA’s local bus fleet.
