The Allan Labor Government has signed a global Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to cut freight fuel use and drive sustainability across the sector.

As part of this agreement; signatories will also work towards the adoption of 100% zero-emission new truck and bus sales by 2040, with an interim target of 30 per cent of new sales being zero-emission by 2030.

Operating locally as Transit Systems Victoria, the business currently provides public bus route services to the City and Western Suburbs with services to East Melbourne
Victoria is committed to the purchase of only 100% zero-emission buses by 2040

Signed by over 43 countries and more than 295 subnational governments, manufacturers, finance institutions, fleet owners and operators, and utility and infrastructure providers working to decarbonise the freight sector and reduce transport emissions, the MoU will include a national plan for high-capacity freight charging and supporting the Sydney to Melbourne “Hume Zero” corridor.

Victoria now joins more than 40 countries working towards net zero by 2050, with the MoU’s endorsement set to allow Victoria to access an international network of jurisdictions and industry to work towards the Labor Government’s goal of 50 per cent zero-emission on new light vehicle sales by 2030.

The Allan Labor Government has recently introduced a set of two new programmes aimed at helping operators invest in low and zero-emission vehicles, infrastructure and technology: an 8 million AUD Victorian Freight Decarbonisation Co-Investment Program and a 1.5 million AUD Victorian Electric Heavy Vehicle Trial.
