Solaris Bus & Coach has signed a framework agreement with Austrian bus company, Österreichische Postbus AG (ÖBB Postbus) to deliver up to 106 battery-electric and hydrogen buses between 2022 and 2025.

The buses include up to 24 of the latest, zero-emission Urbino 9 LE electric buses and up to 82 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses.

The framework agreement builds upon a contract signed in February 2021 for the delivery of up to 40 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses in Austria.

The hydrogen buses provide quiet operation and no local emissions

The hydrogen models will store hydrogen gas within 5 tanks on each bus’s roof to generate energy from 70kW fuel cells. Electricity is then produced via reverse electrolysis and is transferred directly to the electric driveline. Every ordered vehicle will also be equipped with a Solaris High Power battery.

The recent contract further provides the possibility for ÖBB Postbus to purchase Solaris’s Urbino 9 LE electric buses, which were launched in September 2021. Thanks to the model’s compact dimensions, it is expected to perform well on steep climbs and on mountain bends in Austria.

Solaris has delivered over 400 buses to 40 towns and cities in Austria since 2003, nearly 70 of which are zero-emission vehicles.
