Metro Transit has celebrated the completion of its fifth bus rapid transit (BRT) service with the opening of the D line in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area of Minnesota.

The upgraded service is now operating on an 18-mile line that connects Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, Richfield and Bloomington.

Metro D Line
The Metro D line commenced service on 3 December 2022

Metro’s BRT routes feature several transit enhancements to deliver faster, more reliable and more frequent services:

  • Stations are spaced further apart so that buses make less stops and keep moving
  • Ticket machines and mobile apps allow customers to purchase tickets in advance and board at any door
  • Low floor buses, wider doors and raised curbs at stations improve boarding and alighting
  • Transit signal priority allows buses to receive more green lights and move through intersections faster

In addition, Metro has designed its BRT stations to offer a more comfortable service. This is thanks to enhanced security features, push-button heaters, real-time information displays and the provision of bike racks.

The D line is now Metro’s longest BRT line, operating between two key transit centres – Mall of America and Brooklyn Transit Center.
