NEXCOM’s compact edge AI platform enables real-time advanced driver assistance systems, delivering intelligent perception, collision prevention and safer public transportation.
As cities continue to grow and public transportation networks expand, ensuring road safety has become a top priority for bus operators. Buses travel long routes, operate for extended hours and navigate crowded urban environments where drivers must constantly monitor pedestrians, vehicles and road conditions. In such demanding scenarios, even small moments of distraction can lead to serious accidents.
To address these challenges, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are rapidly becoming a cornerstone of modern transportation safety. By combining AI-powered perception, real-time data processing and intelligent alerts, ADAS technologies help drivers make safer decisions and avoid potential hazards before they escalate into accidents.
Recognising this shift toward intelligent vehicle safety, NEXCOM has introduced the ATC 3561 series, a compact yet powerful edge AI platform designed to power next-generation ADAS applications in buses and commercial vehicles. With high-performance NVIDIA edge AI computing, robust connectivity, and rugged reliability, the ATC 3561 enables fleet operators to enhance driver awareness, reduce collision risks and create safer journeys for passengers.
Compact Edge AI for Intelligent Driving Assistance
Modern ADAS applications rely on real-time video analytics and sensor fusion, which require substantial computing power directly inside the vehicle. The ATC 3561 delivers this capability in a compact, palm-sized system designed specifically for vehicle integration.
The platform is available in two configurations to match different AI performance requirements:
- ATC 3561-NA4C, powered by NVIDIA® Jetson Orin Nano™
- ATC 3561-NX4CF, powered by NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ NX
Both models support Super Mode, enabling enhanced AI performance while maintaining a compact form factor ideal for in-vehicle installations.
Despite its small footprint, the ATC 3561 integrates a comprehensive set of I/O interfaces – including GbE PoE+, USB, CAN bus, RS-232, and GNSS connectivity – allowing seamless integration with cameras, sensors and vehicle systems. This design enables rapid deployment of intelligent driver assistance solutions across bus fleets.
Enabling AI-Powered ADAS Safety Functions
ADAS technologies enhance driver awareness by continuously analysing road conditions and vehicle surroundings. With the ATC 3561 powering AI vision applications, buses can gain advanced perception capabilities that significantly improve operational safety.
Key ADAS capabilities include:
Forward Collision Warning
AI vision systems monitor the distance and relative speed between the bus and surrounding vehicles, alerting drivers to potential collision risks.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
Real-time object detection identifies vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, helping drivers react more quickly in crowded urban environments.
Lane Departure Warning
AI-powered lane detection alerts drivers when the vehicle unintentionally drifts out of its lane.
Driver Monitoring Integration
By combining ADAS with driver monitoring systems, fleet operators gain a comprehensive safety solution that tracks both driver behaviour and external road conditions.
Together, these intelligent safety features help prevent accidents, reduce liability risks and protect both passengers and valuable fleet assets.
High-Performance AI Computing for Real-Time Perception
Running multiple ADAS workloads – such as object detection, lane recognition and driver monitoring – requires powerful GPU acceleration.
The ATC 3561 leverages NVIDIA Jetson Orin™ system-on-modules (SOMs) to deliver the performance needed for these complex AI tasks.
The ATC 3561-NA4C, powered by Jetson Orin Nano™, delivers up to 67 TOPS of AI performance, making it ideal for cost-sensitive or power-constrained deployments.
For more demanding applications, the ATC 3561-NX4CF utilises Jetson Orin™ NX and provides up to 157 TOPS of AI computing power (16GB, Super Mode). This level of performance allows the system to run multiple high-resolution video streams and AI inference models simultaneously.
To ensure reliability in vehicle environments, NEXCOM employs a fanless thermal design for stable operation. The ATC 3561-NX4CF also supports an optional fan kit for additional cooling in high-performance deployments.
Seamless Sensor and Camera Connectivity
Effective ADAS platforms rely on continuous data from cameras, sensors and vehicle networks. The ATC 3561 is designed to support this sensor-rich environment.
The system features four GbE PoE+ ports, allowing direct connection to IP cameras and LiDAR sensors while simplifying installation.
Additional connectivity includes:
- USB 3.2
- Isolated CAN bus
- RS-232
- Digital I/O (DI/DO)
- OTG and HDMI®
The platform also integrates a u-blox NEO-M9N GNSS module for precise positioning and supports PCIe 3.0/4.0 x4 NVMe SSD storage to capture and process large volumes of video data efficiently.
For wireless communications, dual M.2 expansion slots support 5G NR, LTE and Wi-Fi 5/6 modules, enabling real-time data transmission and cloud-based fleet management.
Through CPS (cyber-physical system) integration, operators can even update and retrain AI models in the field, improving detection accuracy over time.
Built for the Harsh Realities of Bus Operations
Vehicle-mounted computing systems must withstand constant vibration, temperature variations and long operating hours. The ATC 3561 is engineered to thrive in these conditions.
The platform supports a wide operating temperature range from -25°C to 60°C, ensuring reliable performance across diverse climates.
It also meets stringent industry certifications, including:
- MIL-STD-810H for shock and vibration resistance
- CE / FCC Class A certification
- UKCA certification
- E-mark compliance for automotive environments
These certifications ensure the ATC 3561 delivers consistent, dependable performance in real-world transportation deployments.
