Scania has announced receipt of a new contract to supply 91 battery-electric buses for Swedish public transport operator VR.
The new Fencer f1 BEV buses will be put into service in the Södertälje area starting in June 2027.

The award follows a contract given to VR Sweden in 2025 to provide bus traffic in both Södertälje and Nykvarn.
All vehicles will be manufactured in Södertälje itself, with Scania possessing production facilities and headquarters within the city.
Christopher Svensson, Key Account Manager at Scania Sweden, said:With development and battery assembly in Södertälje, and close cooperation throughout the process, we will offer a solution that is both robust and sustainable.
The deal marks a major milestone for VR Sweden’s long-term investment in sustainable public transport, and represents a continuation of the wider transition towards fossil-free bus traffic with modern and quiet electric buses adapted for traffic in Södertälje.
Anders Frykman, Bus Director at VR Sweden, said:The investment is an important step in the transition to electrified public transport and enables reduced local emissions, while ensuring attractive and reliable traffic for passengers as well as a good working environment for drivers and maintenance personnel.
The agreement between VR and Scania extends from development and planning to the start of service, vehicle services and long-term support.
Based on Scania’s battery-electric bus platform, the Fencer f1 BEV buses aim to contribute to the overall reduction of carbon emissions and general improvement of urban environments.
The deal represents Scania Sweden’s largest delivery of battery-electric vehicles to date, and of the 91 units, 32 will be delivered in a 4×2 configuration and 59 with a 6×2 configuration – with all buses utilising 445 kWh of installed energy.
